Information

Dear Parents,

Students interested in testing out of the mandatory eighth grade computer literacy class for the 2020-2021 school year, will have the opportunity on Tuesday, March 31st or Thursday, April 2nd from 3:55pm – 5:55pm. These will be the only days that the test will be given.  Students are required to make a 70% or better to receive credit for this class.

The test will consist of both a written portion and production portion using P.C.’s and Microsoft Office 2016 software (see note below regarding this software). In order for the student to demonstrate at least 70% proficiency, the following criteria must be met:

  • Pass the written portion of the test (70% or higher) multiple choice questions. Information covered in this test may be found on the review you will receive when you return this form signed.

  • Pass the production portion of the test (70% or higher). Students will be required to type a block style business letter, including letterhead with graphics, chart from a spreadsheet using Excel, proof-reading skills, touch-typing skills, document saving, and printing skills.

Students will be tested at AMCMS in Room 406 at 3:55 after school March 31st or April 2nd. Students will have two hours to complete the test. The results of the test will be forwarded to the counselor’s office. If all the above criteria are met, the student will be exempt from taking the computer literacy class in middle school.

Please complete this online form by 4:00 PM on Friday, March 27, 2020 if you are interested in taking the computer literacy proficiency test.  There will be only 32 spots available on each testing day.  Spots will be filled in the order they are received through the registration form linked below. Confirmation email will be sent out starting in March confirming your testing date. All confirmation emails should be received by March 30th.

If you have any questions please email Mr. Auld (dauld@csisd.org).

Microsoft Office  Software

Microsoft Office

Software

While students will be testing on Office 2016, they can practice using their Microsoft 365 account if they don't have Office 2016 at home, as the software is very similar. They also have the option of coming to school to practice--either in the library before or after school, or during Mr. Auld's tutorials (please stop by Room 406 to verify available tutorial times).

All students in grades 5-12 have access to Microsoft 365 Online software which they can access online from anywhere. This access also allows the full versions of the software to be downloaded on up to FIVE devices--PC and Mac versions available. Therefore, if you do not have this software installed on your home computer currently, you are able to do so. Simply go to this site and log in with your child's username and password (see below for details). You can use the software online or download it--whichever you prefer but the downloaded version has more features.
